India's National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) made a big announcement in the mid January 2006. For Offshore Outsourcing NASSCOM of India introduces employee registry. This National Skills Registry is for Information Technology and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) professionals. This move was to reduce and avoid the frauds that are taking place in the IT Outsourcing industry of India. The NSR, which is online, targets to make stronger security in Indian Information Technology and BPO by offering probable employers with information on employees and workers, declared by NASCOM Vice President Sunil Mehta at the time of introducing this registry for Offshore Outsourcing.
NASSCOM is looking at the viability of having a related registry for employees and workers of IT industry service providers as well. NASSCOM consider the entire ecosystem has to be protected by the possible frauds that are taking place globally. Few cases of frauds have already taken place from India and might discourage the foreign investors to invest in India if it would continue in the future also. So it would be better to take the early steps to avoid this fraud and make the whole procedure stronger globally.

This determination to arrangement of a central registry was decided last year in arouse of some allegations of data theft by workers in the India’s BPO industry and call centers. This cases of data theft actually enforced NASSCOM to take some serious steps regarding the data security. India is one of the most demanded countries for Offshore Outsourcing services in IT industry. Repetition of such cases might hurt the image of India for global IT Outsourcing services. This registry has been started by NASSCOM in association with the National Securities Depository Ltd. (NSDL) in Mumbai, India that is also handling the registry. NSDL already has proficiency in this field and hosts a database of investors.
This step from NASSCOM would be a great innovative step for Offshore Outsourcing service to India and will also boost up the confidence of the foreign investors to seek for the business opportunities in the country. As far as the functionality of this security is concerned, Employees or professionals will enter personal, professional, and other related and required information into the registry and the data will be confirmed by independent groups chosen by NASSCOM and NSDL for that reason. This system would definitely help in preventing the risk in Offshore Outsourcing process.
The information on an employee can be observed by an employer only with the permission of the employee for any IT Outsourcing deals. NASSCOM anticipates the registry to finance itself would help in preventing the possible business risks and frauds of Offshore Outsourcing industry.
